Rippee Island Flood Plain Enhancement
.
Client: Idaho Power
Location: Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge, Idaho
The purpose of the Rippee Island project is to reduce water temperatures in the Snake River through channel modification and to evaluate effectiveness of floodplain reconstruction methods. This project created 16.5 acres of floodplain along 3.500 linear feet of thalweg. Three (3) coffer dams re-routed over 60% of the Snake River. Seasonal river flows ranged from 2,500 to over 10,000 CFS. The longest coffer dam is over 730 feet in length. Over 233,000 CY of materials were excavated and moved over a 7-month period. This is one of the largest river restoration projects completed by Idaho Power to date.
