Harris Springs Habitat Restoration
.
Client: Idaho Department of Fish & Game
Location: Grace, Idaho
The Harris Springs fish habitat restoration project involved the narrowing the Harris Springs stream channel with on-site fill material in fabric-wrapped soil border. Over 10,000 CY of on-site soils were moved over a three-week period. Low-pressure tracked dump trucks were utilized to minimize impact to the wetlands and riparian zones around the Harris Creek watershed. By narrowing the stream, critical habitat was created, stream velocity was increased, and stream temperatures could potentially be lowered by removing shallow back eddies. This project was a public private partnership between Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Union Pacific Railroad and the local ranching community.
